from the moment the idea was first conceived in your brain until final form? The poem “G the F Knows” began halfway through an early-morning jog in May 2020, nearly two months into what became a six-month daily writing practice. I sat on a park bench, pulled out my phone, and typed out a first draft in the Notes feature in one frenzied block of text. By draft 3, I pretty much had the opening and body but still hadn’t found the ending. I knew the poem wasn’t done yet, so I kept working on it. My process is to read the poem aloud and make changes according to my ear mostly, but also for clarity and concision. Here’s what the poem looked like after the third major revision:
