****Annie Seaton’s Follow Me is the forty-second in a never-ending series called INSIDE THE EMOTION OF FICTION where the Chris Rice Cooper Blog (CRC) focuses on one specific excerpt from a fiction genre and how that fiction writer wrote that specific excerpt.  All INSIDE THE EMOTION OF FICTION links are at the end of this piece.

Name of fiction work? And were there other names you considered that you would like to share with us? Follow Me

Fiction genre? Ex science fiction, short story, fantasy novella, romance, drama, crime, plays, flash fiction, historical, comedy, movie script, screenplay, etc. And how many pages long? Time travel romance 250 pages
Has this been published? And it is totally fine if the answer is no. If yes, what publisher and what publication date? Yes: indie published, available on all e-tailers and in print now
What is the date you began writing this piece of fiction and the date when you completely finished the piece of fiction? 2nd January 2019 -31 January 2019 - 50,000 words

Where did you do most of your writing for this fiction work? And please describe in detail. And can you please include a photo? I write in my study with bare walls at a messy desk. I use a laptop, and my desk is often covered with research books. My rag doll cat , Barney is often on  my desk with me.

What were your writing habits while writing this work- did you drink something as you wrote, listen to music, write in pen and paper, directly on laptop; specific time of day? I write directly onto my laptop from 7.30 until 4.30 everyday with structured breaks, and lots of coffee. I write in silence, so I don’t get distracted from my task as I am always writing to deadline.

What is the summary of this specific fiction work? Beth McLaren knows that her great aunt’s cottage holds the key to the mystery that has been a family secret since she was a child. Determined to discover if what she has read in Great Aunt Alice’s diary is true, Beth travels halfway across the world to Glastonbury to solve the mystery.
Silas Rogers, an eccentric musician who moves into the cottage, is equally determined to keep Beth from knowing the truth… and keep her from danger. The last thing he expected was to fall in love.
But when Beth finds herself in the fifteenth century… can she trust that Silas will find her and get her home?
When the truth comes out, can their love cross the centuries, or will it be lost in time?

Can you give the reader just enough information for them to understand what is going on in the excerpt? Beth has discovered that Silas was lying to her, and she is trying to convince herself she cannot love him. Trust is very important to her as she has been let down before.
Why is this excerpt so emotional for you? And can you describe your own emotional experience of writing this specific excerpt? Beth is torn: she wants to love Silas, but she will not accept someone who has lied to her. She is strong, and does not cry, but I did shed tears as I wrote the words as I lived her pain with her. I really get into my characters’ feelings. That is the key to conveying emotion to the reader.

Please include the excerpt and include page numbers as reference. The excerpt can be as short or as long as you prefer.
P217-218
‘It’s all right. We’ll get back. I know how to get us home, so you can chill.’
She inclined her head in a regal fashion. ‘I believe that as well as you knowing all about it, Megan, and David, and Alice, and quite possibly my mother all know about this time stuff.’
Ah, so that was the problem.  Silas pushed himself up from the hard chair and crossed to the window seat and sat beside her. He reached out to take her hand, but she snatched it back.
‘Don’t touch me.’
He pulled his hand back as pure venom laced her tone. His temper began to fire in return. ‘I don’t know about your mother, but yes, Megan and David and Alice knew about the time slip.’
‘And you too, obviously?’ she said as she moved along the seat away from him. ‘It would have made for interesting entertainment if you’d shared it with me.’ Her eyes glittered as they met his. ‘But no. Knowing Megan and all the discouragement she gave me about staying there, I’d say that you were put next door to look after me. Do me the courtesy of being honest, Silas. Am I right?’
He held her gaze as he nodded. ‘Yes. That’s why I was there. To keep you safe.’
Her chin lifted higher. ‘And how convenient for you that I fell into your arms at the wedding. A bit of sex on the side would have made the babysitting a less arduous task for you?’
Were there any deletions from this excerpt that you can share with us? And can you please include a photo of your marked up rough drafts of this excerpt. No, as I am an editor, I write very clean copy. Those are the words exactly as written. I think they years of writing, and the number of books I have published both with a publisher, have helped me write my final draft, first and very easily.
Anything you would like to add? Thank you for inviting me to your blog.  It looks like a very interesting read.
