What is the date you began writing this piece of fiction and the date when you completely finished the piece of fiction? Written in 2016 over a 3 month period

Where did you do most of your writing for this fiction work? And please describe in detail. And can you please include a photo? I have a designated writing room in my home in Illinois

What were your writing habits while writing this work- did you drink something as you wrote, listen to music, write in pen and paper, directly on laptop; specific time of day? My best writing times are in the evening. I play mood appropriate music in the background and keep props nearby to remind me of the location

What is the summary of this specific fiction work? Rod Campbell loved to go tubing with his friends down the lazy river outside of town. They often wondered about Snake Island as they drifted by.

Then, one day Mr. Patterson rushed out in front of the boys as they rode their bikes. People around town said he was a little crazy since he’d come back from the war. Some said his injuries had affected his brain. But Mr. Patterson warned them about the island.

Rod talked his friends into camping out on the island since it was near his grandfather’s farm. If they could last the whole night, then there wouldn’t be anything to be afraid of they reasoned.

On the night of the campout, someone came to the island, dug a hole, and rolled a large piece of carpet in. Then he began covering it up. The boys were terrified when they realized the man digging the hole was Mr. Patterson.
They raced off the island. The next day they learned that the richest man in town was missing. Police suspected murder.

Rod and his friends reported what they saw and Mr. Patterson was accused of the crime. But did he do it? And what did he bury in that hole?

Why is this excerpt so emotional for you? And can you describe your own emotional experience of writing this specific excerpt? This is a spooky story in a spooky setting which I hope comes through in the synopsis.

Please include the excerpt and include page numbers as reference. The excerpt can be as short or as long as you prefer. From page 7 - Someone killed the richest man in town, and everyone was sure who did it. What happened in Bedford put this little community smack in the center of national news for the entire country. But before that happened, the world had pretty much forgotten about this sleepy little place after the Interstate went in outside of town. Unless a person actually grew up there, few outsiders even knew it existed. These days, about the only people who come through are either lost, broken down, or out of gas. And even though the town might be small, compared to many others, it still had the county courthouse, jail, and sheriff’s department right in the center of town.

Anything you would like to add? Since I grew up hating to read, it is my desire to craft the kids of adventures and mysteries that will attract and hold young readers. After all, Readers are the Leaders Others Follow.

Max Elliot Anderson grew up as a struggling reader. After surveying the market as an adult, he sensed the need for action-adventures and mysteries for readers 8 – 13, that would have interested him as a child.

Using his extensive experience in the production of dramatic motion pictures, videos, and television commercials, Mr. Anderson brings that same visual excitement and heart-pounding action to the stories he writes. His books include different characters, setting, and plot as well as two traditional series.

Several middle grade books are published, more are under contract, with additional manuscripts completed. Young readers have reported that reading one of his books is like actually being in an exciting movie.
