Something about this painting made me think about the story of Susan Smith (Left), the woman who rolled her car off a cliff with her children inside, and how it is a strangely common story. That idea found its way into the poem. I wrote this particular poem very quickly.
She lives in Missouri with her wife and three children where she co-organizes the Downtown Poetry reading series.
